Judd Ranch is in the business of selling bulls, and knows that its reputation is on the line with every bull sold.
Judd Ranch’s annual bull sale, held the first Saturday in March at the ranch, features approximately 220+ bulls: 65% Gelbvieh, 35% Red Angus and Angus/Gelbvieh Balancer bulls. The selection includes black, polled Gelbvieh bulls; red, polled Gelbvieh bulls; high percentage and purebred Gelbvieh bulls; Red Angus bulls; and SmartCross Balancer bulls (Gelbvieh X Angus). All bulls are complete packages having an unmatched combination of growth, carcass and fertility traits.
The bulls in our sale have not been picked over. You and every potential buyer are getting first chance at every bull that has met or exceeded our stringent standards from birth until sale day, and that has passed an extensive fertility exam by a qualified veterinarian. The sale bulls are structurally sound, have balanced EPDs and a problem-free temperament and are in their working clothes, ready to service females.
The numbers behind each bull are honest numbers. Birth weights are precisely as the scale reads. Spring-born natural calves are raised without creep feed while the fall calves receive creep only during the bitter cold Kansas months of December, January and February.
Bull calves come straight off the cow, are vaccinated and weighed and enter our on-the-farm gain test. To ensure soundness and have bulls ready to work, bulls are developed on a special high-protein, high-roughage, low-starch ration. Spring bulls ordinarily go on test at 7 to 8 months of age while fall-born calves are a bit older, at 10 to 11 months old. Bulls are tested against their contemporaries, with all handled alike. Following this protocol allows us to measure genetic differences and to provide you with easy-to-understand information so all guesswork is removed.
